Gastonburg Tor
| The
ancient realm of Avalon is a place of mystery and romance, but also of
spiritual aspiration.
The ancient Celts
called it Ynisvitrin, or Shining Isle, because the surrounding
river was said to be the color of glass. I chose the name because of its
mystery and partly because I love the shimmer of beads and the warm glow
of crystals of different hues.
Informed by the bright, rich colors of the Southern Italian coast, the Avalon line evokes ancestral memories of my father’s family, which came from Naples. I weave together beads, crystals, semiprecious stones, and unusual closures to create a healing field vibration that reflects the lively musical rhythms of that sunny region of Italy. Some pieces echo the molten colored swirl of Murano glass from Venice, while others reflect the complex double helix design of DNA. I have also borrowed stitchwork patterns from South African and American Indian culture to broaden the appeal of my designs. Every piece is unique, and so I have given them individual names that reflect the influences that drove me to create them. I can create similar pieces on request, but they will never be exactly the same. Each piece is one of a kind.
