“Ann Patty is an outstanding editor.  She is alert to the measure and quality of prose and is especially strong at plot, that is, identifying and correcting flaws in narrative structure.  Her extensive experience, her professionalism, her highly developed sense of taste and not least, her warm personality maker her a writer’s dream.”  Patrick McGrath

Editing, Co-Writing, Book Doctoring

I have worked in New York trade publishing for over thirty years.  My experience and interests are broad – I have edited both commercial and literary fiction–from bestsellers such as V. C. Andrew’s Flowers in the Attic and Olivia Goldsmith’s The First Wives Club, to Yann Martel’s Man Booker winner Life of Pi and Steven Millhauser’s Pulitzer Prize winner Martin Dressler. I’ve published bestselling and critically acclaimed memoirs, from Frank Zappa’s The Real Frank Zappa Book to Abigail Thomas’ A Three Dog Life, as well as a range of narrative non-fiction and psychology books.

I accept assignments from publishers, editors, literary agents and writers.
